Behind The Lens

Location

This was taken in my home studio using a ring flash for a first time. Photo was taken using a mirror.

Time

I took this shot extemporaneously in january 2023 while I was shooting something completely different in my studio. It was probably taken in the evening like most of my shots. I'm not a morning person so usually I seem to be more creative during evenings.

Lighting

Not really. This was a pretty simple setting, just a completely dark studio and a ring flash directly above me. That's about it.

Equipment

I was using my old Fujifilm X-T2 that is still a pretty decent camera. My tripod is made by Manfrotto and ring flash is just some cheap flash that I was using for a first time.

Inspiration

This photo was inspired completely by 'Camera Glory' competition on this site.

Editing

I used Capture One to process RAW file and convert image to black&white using Fujifilm ACROS film simulation. Then just a bit of contrast tweak and I was done.

In my camera bag

For few years now I have been using Fujifilm gear. I like to shoot street photography so it's best to travel light using mirrorless cameras. Usually I only carry my X-T2 and X100F. I only use prime lenses and most times I have my weather sealed 18MM F1.4 and 35mm F1.4 with me on my travels.

Feedback

Just have fun and don't overthink. Try different settings and don't be afraid to make mistakes. Learn to use flash in different ways.
