Location
This was taken on my back porch in Pennsylvania.Time
It was taken in the evening. It was getting dark and I plugged in my string lights and I noticed that this flower was just glowing, with water fresh from the rain and the light coming from my string lights.Lighting
I am usually afraid to shoot in low light. I also don’t like using a tripod because I find it clunky. I like being able to put my camera where ever I like and I feel like a tripod limits me. Maybe I just have the wrong tripod. Worth sharing? Use a tripod!Equipment
This was shot with a Nikon D3000, with a Sigma 70-300 F4-5.6 APO Macro Super II.Inspiration
I loved the way the glow from my string lights lit up the flower and enhanced the water. Photography is a long time hobby and a therapy for me. I must have shot this 25 times with different settings and angles and when I finally landed on this one, I still wasn’t satisfied.Editing
I lowered my black point and gave the image a bit more shadow but mostly it was great without edits. In my camera bag
I have a limited supply of gear. I always carry my Nikon D3000, with the kit lens, my tamron 70-200, my yougnou 50mm, and now my Sigma which I used for this shot. I also carry a tripod now (even though I hate them), some macro filters (macro is my favorite) and a neutral density filter.Feedback
There is no right or wrong light. If you see something interesting, shoot it. If you aren’t moved by the photo, shoot it again. And again. All light is good light. Don’t be afraid of it.
