Behind The Lens
Location
This photo was taken at my fire department’s local training center in North western Arizona, USA.Time
This photo was after our regular training for the shift. Our training starts at 2:00 pm so I believe it was about 4:00 pm the photo was taken.Lighting
The image was taken inside a old gymnasium that has been converted into a training center. The main source of light was coming from the open bay door that’s in the photo and I slightly underexposed the photo to add more depth to the black and white shot.Equipment
I used my old canon T1i and 18-55 mm lens.Inspiration
I love candid shots so I couldn’t pass up a chance to catch my fire crew relaxing and bonding.Editing
I’m a me photographer so I normally use the editing software on my MacBook Pro. This shot I adjusted the exposure, shadows, and contrast to bring out the depths of the image. In my camera bag
My every day carry is my canon T1i, with 18-55 mm, 35-80mm, and 75-300 mm canon lens’.Feedback
What I’ve learned about candid photography is not to be intrusive. By observing your subject with your eyes you’re changing that subject and that change is exponentially increased when there is a camera in between. For black and white shots underexpose the image for a nice vintage feel to the image.
