I took this photo at Hallo Bay in Alaska .I was on a bear viewing trip. As a rule there is a minimum 50 metre distance from the bears. While viewing a mother and her cubs a large male appeared on the horizon who would potentially kill the cubs given the opportunity. The sight of the male was enough to scare the mother and cubs and they walked towards us and sat down 15 feet away!! They were so close you could hear the mother breathing and the odd low growl at the male. The mother cleverly used us as protection by positioning her and the cubs behind us knowing that the male wouldn't come near them while they were close to us. A wonderful moment in nature and the cub just wanted some reassurance from it's mother,a magical experience.Time

Go to Alaska , it's a truly beautiful unspoilt wilderness and a great place to see bears in the wild. The light there is clear and free of dust and pollution and a photographer's heaven. Bear viewing is expensive BUT worth every penny in my opinion.A mind blowing experience with nature.
