Location
This photo was taken in Maligne Canyon, Jasper National Park, Alberta.Time
This was one of my favourite outings of the trip. It was our first stop of the day and was around 9 am. It was taken during the park's offseason therefore there were very few people. I was able to set up my tripod and throw on a 10stop filter and shoot the rushing water for about an hour uninterupeted. It was so peaceful sitting watching the water rush by and listening to it echo off the walls of the canyon.Lighting
The early morning light allowed the canyon walls to have a slight yellow cast which contrasted the turquoise water at the center of the image.Equipment
This photograph was made with a Nikon D750 and a 24-70 2.8 mm lens at 48mm. I used a 10 stop neutral density filter with a shutter speed of 30 seconds.Inspiration
I was inspired to take this photo because I wanted to force myself to slow down and fully take in everything that was around me. By forcing myself to set up a tripod and using such a long exposure I was able to look at what I was shooting and focus on my composition.Editing
There was minimal post-processing done to this image. The water had such a natural vibrant colour that if I pushed it too far it would look fake. I wanted the rough canyon walls to lead the viewer's eyes into the silky smooth water and really force the viewer inward. In my camera bag
In my bag, I usually have two Nikon D750 bodies as well as a Nikon 24-70 2.8, 80-200 2.8, 50 1.4, and an 85 1.4.Feedback
Forcing yourself to slow down and set up a tripod, practice longer exposures and think about your composition really allows you to become a better photographer.
