Behind The Lens

Location

Somewhere on the streets of London, UK

Time

Around lunch time

Lighting

It was a rather typical cloudy and breezy day in London. Which was perfect and prompted me to take this shot as the clouds reflected in the façade of this building.

Equipment

Fujifilm xt2, 18-55mm kit lens, handheld

Inspiration

I love architecture of all kind. Love how it plays or disrupts its environment, how it affects people living or working in it. This type of architecture, the glass façade and its strong geometry seems harsh and forbidding at first, but the light chaos of the cloudy sky softens it. It actually brings some order into the chaos.

Editing

Just some standard LR processing: BW conversion, color adjustments for the grays, little sharpening and a little cropping

In my camera bag

Nowadays I mostly carry the fujifilm xt2, the 18-55mm kit lens, the little flash, a gizmo travel tripod, an old analog tamron 60-300mm with adapter.

Feedback

The most important aspect of creating images like the one I show here, is keeping your eyes open. Look around you. Find something that catches your attention, figure out why it does and then find your composition: Walk a little to the side, forward, back, tilt the camera, get closer to the ground or up on your toes. Once you find your composition find your exposure. While I shoot in RAW, I still always expose towards what I have in mind the outcome should be. Here I paid close attention to the clouds and underexposed to ensure I would not blow out any highlights.Guess that comes from my analog days.
