Behind The Lens

Location

In the streets of Berlin in front of an air handling unit.

Time

At about 9 o’clock AM

Lighting

I used 2 Godox AD600BM, one with a soft box and a grid and one with a umbrella with diffuser.

Equipment

Canon 5D mark IV Canon EF 14mm f2.8 L II Godox AD600BM This shot was hand held but I use also a tripod from KF Concept (2534T)

Inspiration

I always search for locations in Berlin and I directly thought about this idea when I saw it as it looks like a clock without needles. So I thought about using the legs of a ballerina to represent the needles and that was it.

Editing

Yes, I always work on the background and on the model separately, I erased a lot of graffiti on the walls, then color graded it. For the model, the skin was retouched with only dodge and burn; locally and then globally.

I have a portable studio on every shoot: Canon 5D mark IV, Canon EF 14mm f2.8 L II, Canon EF 16-35mm f2.8 L II, Sigma Art 50mm f1.4, 2x Godox AD600BM, AD200, strip boxes with grids, portable beauty dish, light stands, tripod from KF Concept (2534T).

Feedback

Well first searching for spots with strong lines, working on holding the camera straight and practice symmetry, working with strobes or off camera flashes, experimenting with 2 and 3 point lighting. And draw your ideas, develop concepts, look for interesting architecture and see how to interact with it and poses.
