On the floor! We were updating this model's portfolio and I wasn't happy with the moody red/black of the boudoir scene. I spotted the bright yellow carpet in the entrance room and thought "Perfect". We pulled down the lace curtain to give a bit of class.Time
Middle of the day. This was one of the last images taken after a lengthy morning modelling session. We broke for lunch and then went outside for a beach shoot, and later fashion images after dark at an old church.Lighting
After pulling down the curtain the room was flooded with light. I utilised the studio lighting to omit the shadows from the other side of the model.Equipment
Shot on an Olympus 510 with a 50-200mm Zuiko lens and external Bowens studio lights. I was standing on a step ladder looking straight down. Not being particularly tall, a step ladder is an essential part of my equipment list.Inspiration
This image was inspired by a happy crew. We had never met before but we got along like a house on fire! I was met on set by the model's mother (who did her makeup) and the stylist involved me in the decisions for clothing and accessories. The model had her own ideas for shots and I was happy to accommodate. Because the morning was so light-hearted I felt that the images had to be bright to retain that atmosphere. We were able to generate true feelings that permeate the image and make a lasting impression.Editing
No none. This image is SOOC (Straight out of camera). In fact it wasn't even shot in RAW!In my camera bag
Spare batteries, spare batteries, spare batteries and more spare batteries! There is nothing professional about running out of battery half-way through a shoot. I also always carry at least one of each type of lens - portrait, zoom, micro, and wide-angle- just in case I see something unusual on the way.Feedback
Think outside the box. Never be afraid to stick your neck out and do something different. I think the reason this image is so popular (besides having a beautiful women involved) is that it isn't the usual bourdoir image. There is no shadow, no dark, no broody feeling. It is light and happy and sensual without being serious.
