Location
Makoko stilted fishing village, Lagos, NigeriaTime
The time of day was approximately 10:00 amLighting
The lighting is an odd one. Makoko is a thriving fishing village and as part of their weath generation they sell smoked fish on mainland Lagos. So you can imagine the air is thick with wood / charcoal smoke from the smoke houses. That being said it was a relatively bright day.Equipment
Canon 5Dmkiv, Canon 70-200 2.8L ii. No tripod or flashInspiration
I am a member of The Nigerian Field Society who make regular visits to Makoko. Our purpose is not just to take photographs but to assist the local Egun people with projects, predominantly the Maternity Clinic and Primary School for which we provide some funding.Editing
Very minimal tweaking in RAW Edit in terms of vibrancy plus a cropIn my camera bag
Travelling by open boat to Makoko I try to involve some risk management i.e. decide beforehand which body and lens I am to use for the day. Having said that I ALWAYS carry some cleaning gear in a pouch.Feedback
Simply put I look for "the moment" shots. I tend to sit or stand in one place and look at what is happening around me as opposed to just fixing my gaze in one direction. I have to say though that Makoko is a bustling community so any way I look I am bound to catch a good shot.
