Behind The Lens

Location

Photo taken outside Glen Harvie, South Africa during a off road rally as part of the South African national rally championship.

Time

It was midday about 13:00 local time.

Lighting

Not particularly the best time of the day but this is when it happens and one has to do the best with the light that you have with sport photos.

Equipment

Canon EOS 1DX and Canon EF70 - 200mm f2.8L IS II lens.

Inspiration

I like sport & action photography and the action here with the trucks going through the water splash asks for a few photos.

Editing

I shoot in RAW so the normal basic levels in lightroom, a bit of sharpening, clarity & vibrance. The photo is cropped with a little bit of a vignette added. I always set the corrections for chromatic aberation & the profile for the specific lens.

Canon 1dx Mk II, Canon 5d MkIV, Spare batteries, EF24-70mm F2.8, EF70 - 200mm f2.8L IS II, Speedlite 600EX RT, Lenspen, Lenspen cloth, Platypod Ultra & Circular Polarizer filter.

Feedback

Panning action shots of racing cars are lots fun & satisfying when you get it right. The important thing is to practice your technique even in the street in town with normal cars. It is about the timing and moving the camera with the moving vehicle. Loke any sport follow through.
