Location
This photo was taken in front of a small town jewelry repair shop in the suburbs of Illinois. I spotted a bright blue light glowing in the night as we drove around looking for potential spots.Time
Just past sunset this was our last photo/spot of the evening and found it by accident.Lighting
The blue lighting is emitting from a neon sign that says “jewelry repair” with a diamond shape underneath the word.Equipment
Hand held shooting with a Nikon D810 paired w/70-200 f2.8 piece of glass!!Inspiration
My model and I were on a mission to find bright neon type lighting in the suburbs of Illinois. There’s not much out there but we spotted this bright blue glow in a back corner of a small strip of local stores. Jewelry shop was closed!Editing
I used a linear gradient filter to split and adjust just the blue side of the photo. That was actually the only thing I played around with.In my camera bag
I always carry my two babies with me, a Nikon D810 & a Sony A7III inside a pelican case and accompanied by a 24-70 f2.8, 70-200 f2.8, 50 f1.8 and 85 f1.8. I always throw a gimbal in the mix for any video I may want to shoot as well.Feedback
Finding good lighting is always the best, even a glow from a neon jewelry repair shop light can work wonders. Just be creative with what you have at the moment & try not to look into it too much. When I look through the glass to frame my shot, I could already tell from the nice blue glow on the left side of her face that this photo was going to be one of my favorites. When you know, sometimes you just know!
