Behind The Lens

Location

This is on the main road from Tabanan city in Bali to Marga village where we live. Marga is noted for being the site of the last battle of the war of independence between the Dutch, who were armed with all the technological advances of WWII, and Indonesian forces who were armed with spears and stolen rifles. This has nothing to do with this photograph!

Time

Late afternoon, 16:02 which is about 2.5 hours before sunset.

Lighting

This is the 'Golden Hour' when the equatorial light is particularly attractive with a golden hue.

Equipment

Canon 5D Mk III, 24-70 mk I, handheld, no other lighting. 1/200s shutter, f5 and ISO 100 at a focal length of 70mm.

Inspiration

We were walking home from the market and I spotted this guy about to start a time-trial on our main road. I spotted them getting ready and positioned myself (and kids) at the side of the road. I shot 16 frames from when they were first lining up until he had zoomed past me, his friend standing in the road to stop the traffic!

Editing

Yes, it was processed using the Paint Shop Pro Fill Light/Clarity tool with 38 clarity and 32 sharpening. Nothing else.

In my camera bag

Just the camera and lens. I have tried carrying about several other lenses and filters but that's all too much faffing about.

Feedback

Pan the camera at the same speed the subject is moving. Shoot several frames!
