Location
For the first spring trip in 2018 we rented a cottage in a tiny place in Northern Germany: Klappholz. This is located close to the Danish border.Time
So I expected that I would take some first spring pictures and ended up with an unexpected winter splendids. I heard that a sudden temperature drop and snow was to be expected. What is the first idea from the photo-minded heart: Great! It would become a short night. Best holiday activity: I got up at 05:00 and found the fresh snow waiting for me. I already had in mind how the shot could be taken: I switched on the lights in the living room and the hall and ran out. Blue hour was waiting. At around 05:50 the conditions were perfect and I took my shots. Then back to the house and back to bed...Lighting
The picture was taken with the natural light. I love to use the blue hour, however, normally at the end of the day. This time the shot was in the morning, which made the (colour) temperature even a bit cooler. No flash needed.Equipment
What I used for this picture was a tripod and my Fujifilm X-E1 in combination with the Fujifilm XF 15-55 / F-2,8-4. 6 seconds exposure and f13. Oh and besides that I really needed a jacket and a pair of gloves :-)Inspiration
The place we stayed has been build with so much love that I already took some shots before. These were pretty - yeah pretty normal. The host told us that in wintertime the place would even look more lovely when covered in snow. I almost regretted to have missed the snow from the winter 2017. This time I was lucky. So the moment I understood snow would come, I already planned a possible series in mind. Only missing part: snow. Well as you can see I got lucky.Editing
I used the Velvia preset from Fujifilm. I love the enhanced colours this simulation gives from the start. Then I did do a post-processing in Lightroom. Highlights, shadows, sharpening, vignetting. In my camera bag
I have a Fujifilm X-T1 with the XC-55-230, the Fujifilm X-E1 with the 18-55 all in a backpack and some additional filters and a Fujifilm EF-42 Flashlight.Feedback
Keep your eyes always open and try to already catch the possible picture in your mind. Don't get frustrated if you don't get it right the first time. Keep on trying.
