While living just outside of Banff National Park, I went for a walk and it felt like someone was watching me. I looked around and then up from where I stood. That’s when I saw this beautiful animal balancing on the edge of an outcropping.

Location
Near a town, Exshaw, east of Banff National Park in the province of Alberta, Canada. Just on a little photo walk, when I had the feeling someone was watching me. Looked up when a few small pebbles fell from his perch. And there he is. Beautiful animal.Time
It was overcast and sometime mid afternoon, if I remember correctly.Lighting
Nothing unusual. Just natural light diffused by the overcast sky.Equipment
I took this shot about 30 years ago, so that’s why the equipment is antiquated. Minolta X700 film DSLR, Tamron 70-200mm telephoto lens and Kodak Ektachrome transparency film (slides) and that’s itInspiration
At the time, I was into landscapes, so that’s what brought me to this spot and this shot was a unexpected surprise.Editing
No. I sent the film canister to Kodak for processing and they sent the slides back. Here’s a history lesson. When you bought the film it included the postage and processing. I know there are fellow photographers that remember that time.In my camera bag
Fujifilm X-E2 with an amazing lens, the 18-55mm. Extra battery and a 35mm and an 18mm.Feedback
All I can suggest is finding an area that these animals call home. And of course preset your gear to catch these blessed opportunities to capture nature in its natural habitat.
