I adore this image! We had just come out from my son's basketball game and were milling around when I looked over and saw the sun behind the cloud and I wandered off, as I often do, to try capture what I was seeing. I didn't realise the actual image I had until I went home later that evening and downloaded my photos for the day. Image taken on 23 July 2017 at 14.35pmLighting
The sun was providing all the light I needed.Equipment
I used my Nikon D3300 with f/14 and IOS - 200. No other equipment was used other than my hands and my eye.Inspiration
Twilight is my primarily my favourite time of the day to take photos but I also love taking images of changing light and reflections and refraction's of light so when I saw the sun's rays flaring out from behind the cloud I had to try and capture it!Editing
The only post-processing I did was to slightly alter the exposure of the image, dimming the highlights and increasing the contrast. In my camera bag
I like to keep things simple. I have my Nikon D3300 Body and 2 lenses. My wide AF-S 18mm - 55mm and my zoom AF-S 55mm - 200mm. As I am primarily a basketball photographer, that's all I need.Feedback
When photographing the sun, everything is constantly changing so you literally only have minutes to capture any particular image so you need to be quick. But the good thing is there's one everyday so experiment with different exposure settings and angles and geographical setting and see what you like. And obviously, don't discount cloudy sun images either, they can harbour hidden gems! Have fun!
