Behind The Lens

Location

Frankfort Michigan. Its the lighthouse at the entrance to Betsy Bay

Time

late afternoon

Lighting

It was a gloomy windy day and it fit the picture perfectly. Didn't see the image of the man until I was editing...

Equipment

Canon T3. sigma 600mm with monopod

Inspiration

Some of my favorite shots have come from this area. The mood can change so rapidly you never know whats coming next..

Editing

Shot it black and white and adjusted exposure. Same as would have done in the darkroom back in the day but now it takes a fraction of the time. Don't miss the chemicals and the mess but I would have not traded it for anything. The only way to learn light and exposure is to actually manipulate it with your hands in the darkroom.

In my camera bag

Canon t3,canon 10-18 zoom,75-300 and the 150-600 zoom... monopod,tripod and canon flash

Feedback

Patience. Don't over think it. that's the problem with some of the new cameras. They give you too many options. To me the biggest part of a photo is composition and that is something that is learned and not just what you see through the viewfinder. Proper cropping can make or break a great photo. With digital as long as the exposure is in the ball park you can make it work. Good to know your equipment but I guarantee you my old canon f-1 and a roll of Kodachrome could produce some truly awesome photos and you had to do all the settings manually with limited post production adjustments available. Digital has simplified the process but the outcome still depends on the person holding the camera.
