The photo was taken in my apartment at Chennai, back in 2014Time
This is probably one of my favorite images. I remember one fine evening thinking about creating something with the matchsticks and started gathering the things which would eventually get me to this shot. I started around 7:00pm and finished by 9:00pm, during this time I experimented with multiple angles and shutter speeds.Lighting
I wanted to utilize the nice warm and yellow light of the candles and to draw more attention, I added a mirror to the scene and glued all the candles on top of it. What excites me more about the shot is the blue flames which is followed by the yellow ones for that adds drama as well as making the shot even more interesting.Equipment
Back in days I used to have entry level DSLR, I remember using Canon EOS 1200D, along with 18-55mm f3.5 IS-II lens.Inspiration
I remember there was a protest going on in the city and it was about the LGBT rights. I wanted this image to convey a powerful message. I believe that the world is a place of diverse people and we must accept them the way they are, for that makes us more empathetic and better human, so in order to say that 'hey, we know we look different, possess different abilities but together we're great'.Editing
Adobe Lightroom, it's easy and simple and if I don't need any manipulation in a photograph, I choose Adobe Lightroom every single time :)In my camera bag
I carry my Canon 7D mark-ii with two additional batteries, 70-200mm f2.8 IS-ii, 50mm f1.8, 18-135mm IS-ii. Along with that I always carry Vanguard Alta Pro 263AB 100 tripod and ND filters just in case I get lucky and run into a fountain or a waterfall or anything I want to capyure with slow shutter - but in daylight and want to check amount of light. I carry an action camera(goPro Hero 7) for wide angle shots and hyper stabilized videos.Feedback
Be patient and keep trying until you get the shot. matchsticks are tricky to glue on to the mirror. When you start lighting the matchsticks, make sure you start at the same time from both ends, for that will give you a nice symmetrical shot.
