Location
I took this photo in our kitchen because I wanted to use a location which is related to the main subject of the picture: food - or to be more precise in this case: the apple.Time
The time of the day isn't so important for the picture. I think it was in the early afternoon.Lighting
Actually I don't like to work with flashes. Instead of these I prefer static lights. Due to the lack of studio equipment I used my desk light from the home office to create the strong shadow under the apple. This shadow was very important to show that the apple levitates.Equipment
I used an old Sony A300 and I think the lens was the kit lens.Inspiration
The picture is quite old. I took it four years ago. Levitation photography was new that time and I asked myself how I could create this effect. The whole process of creating those photos was extremely interesting for me.Editing
Yes, there was quite a bit post-processing necessary because I had to use a wire to arrange the apple slices and the knife. This wire was removed in Photoshop afterwards. I also emphasized the wood grain a bit.In my camera bag
I switched to Canon two years ago. I love wide angle shots why I often use the Sigma 8-16mm F4,5-5,6 DC and the Canon EF 16-35mm f/4. I also have a Canon 70 - 200 but I rarely use it. Depending on the situation I use a big and solid or small and light tripod from Manfrotto. To hike to landscape photography spots I carry two flashlights with me and always have a second pair of warm and dry socks in my bag.Feedback
The most important point to consider is the perfect illusion of the levitation in the final picture. The viewer shouldn't see that your levitating objects or persons hang at a wire or stood on a ladder. In post-production also remove shadows from the objects which helped you with the levitation illusion. Removing is easier if you shoot a second photo oft the scene without changing camera settings and without any objects. Then you can combine these two pictures in post-processing. How I've mentioned before the shadow of the levitation object is very important to create the strong effect. Set your lighting that a shadow appears under your hovering objects.
