Behind The Lens
Location
Photo was taken in Grand Rapids, Michigan. I was there for a conference, and after the meeting I noticed that the sky looked promising for a good sunset, so I hiked across the river from the conference center to a parking garage that stood above the nearby highway.Time
Late afternoon/early evening as the sun was setting. Just after true sunset.Lighting
The western sky was particularly well lit and colored.Equipment
Camera is a Canon EOS Rebel T2i, with a 55-200mm lens.Inspiration
I was shooting the sunset and noticed the building directly behind me was a mirrored glass sided structure. The windows gave a slight distortion to the sky while the interviewing framework gave an interesting geometric pattern in contrast to the cloud patterns reflected.Editing
No. I tend to do little to no post processing. I am driven by a desire to get the photo as close to right in camera as possible. I struggle with the idea that you can process a mediocre photo into a good or great one and still call it a photo instead of digital art.In my camera bag
My camera (Canon T2i) and a number of lenses (18-55mm, 55-200mm, 50mm f/1.8, 75-300mm, and recently added a 70-200mm f/2.8)Feedback
Keep a mind on your surroundings, and see what opportunities beyond the one thing you are shooting may present themselves, allowing you to have another take on you intended subject.
