I took this photo near Allenspark, CO. This road offers several perspectives of Mt. Meeker so as you drive along, you keep getting closer and feel the need to stop again.Time
This was taken around 1am on a crystal clear night. I wanted to get away from all the light pollution in the city. It was my first time out with my new camera so I wanted to see how well it did in extreme low light conditions.Lighting
This was taken during a super-moon. Visibility was excellent and I was able to shoot at a low ISO which kept the noise down.Equipment
I used a Canon 6D with a tripod 24-105F4. I didn't have an intervalometer so I used the cameras timer with a 30 second exposure so my shutter-press didn't shake the camera.Inspiration
I love night photography. The fact that most, if not all of the light will be artificial means i can manipulate the image more freely. The car driving down the road was my truck, driven by a friend of mine. The idea of having the road lit up was to lead the viewers eye to the mountain.Editing
Post processing was actually very minimal. I adjusted the white balance and made minute alterations to contrast as well as cropping it down slightly. The camera did most of the work. I always am pleased when I take a photo and feel like I don't need to make adjustments; it's like all the conditions for a good shot lined up perfectlyIn my camera bag
I try to keep my pack light while being able to cover a wide range of photos. I have my Canon 6D with a 24-105f4, 70-200f2.8 and a little 50mmf1.8. I just got a new intervalometer to try some more night shoots. I carry my tripod too, of course.Feedback
I would suggest looking for a location with little to no light pollution. This was my first time shooting in the mountains at night and I really want to do more. Bring a tripod and a flashlight. A high powered light helps me dial in the focus when I'm aiming the camera at an area where it struggles focusing. For this photo I just used my cars headlights since it was on the road already. However, the combination of a full moon and a snow-capped peak make focusing easy. I shot at the lowest ISO that would turn out a good photo in hopes to keep the noise to a minimum.
