Location
This photo was taken just behind my apartment building, in the parking lot of a church. I live in Kingston, Ontario Canada. with my husband and two daughters, ages 7, and 2.Time
This is one of my favourite images of my youngest daughter. It was mid afternoon and overcast ,and had been raining really hard all that day, and once the rain subsided, I quickly put on her rubber boots, and poncho, grabbed her rubber ducky and ran out the door in search of puddles.Lighting
Nothing special about this lighting. It was overcast on a rainy day.Equipment
I used my Canon t5i, and my 85mm EF 1:1.8 lens. No flash was used.Inspiration
I really wanted to capture the experience, and memories of my daughter playing and splashing in the puddles. This was the first time I was actually trying to get her to play. She looked more confused that I was telling her to go into the puddle instead of telling her not to splash. I quickly positioned her ducky, and ran to get the shot. This was the result!Editing
My editing style requires quite a bit of post processing. I prefer deep, dark colours, with plenty of contrast. I also add in a pop of light at the top of my images to either expand the light already there, or add it in separately to give the image that something else that's missing. In my camera bag
I have the hiking backpack type of camera bag, so fortunately for me, I have room for all my lenses for all my needs! I would never go without my 85mm lens. I use that lens for everything!Feedback
When I am attempting to take pictures of my two year old, which is a challenge in itself, I am constantly talking to her, and pointing things out to grab her interest. (Look at the pretty flowers! What colour is it? Does it smell pretty? Can you smell it for me?) I find when you're working with small children and toddlers, just letting them be themselves, and do what they do is key. It's much easier to capture those candid shots, and the quirks in their personality when they're allowed to be themselves as opposed to posing them, and trying to make them sit still. It's much more fun as well!
