Behind The Lens
Location
It was taken at a facility in Brewster NY that rehabilitates injured or orphaned birds of prey and other animals. They also provide therapeutic Special Education with animals to help children by incorporating academic, behavioral and emotional support in a comprehensive learning environmentTime
It was taken around 12:00 noonLighting
The light was just noon sunlight.Equipment
I shot the photo with a Canon 70D, 28-135 MM lens at 121mm, at 1/160 ISO 200.Inspiration
The bird had such an awesome presence. I was attracted to the eyes and the overall facial features.Editing
I did a little Photoshop work on it with a little cropping and a little color saturation. In my camera bag
I almost always have my Canon 70D, with 28-135 MM zoom lens with me. When I'm out shooting wildlife I bring my 300mm telephoto and 1x multiplier.Feedback
This shot was relatively easy because the bird was in captivity. But when shooting wildlife I never hesitate to take a lot more shots than I think I need. When I get to reviewing them I find there is always just 1 or 2 that have that perfect look. I suggest "overshooting" whenever you have the chance with wildlife. A head turn or a beak opening, at just the right moment, can make a good photo a great one.
