Location
This was taken at Devlin near Louisburgh in Co.Mayo Ireland a fantastic spot for seascapes and a huge favourite for Irish photogaghers due too the changing scene everytime you shoot there.Time
The image was taken at sunset but to get the "shot" it takes a lot more than just going at the right time, you need to check tides (a receding tide at the mid point of turning is best) and the direction of the sun plus as always in the west of Ireland the weather!!Lighting
Good use of the available light is paramount not only the sun setting but look for reflections off the sea and rocks etc as that adds a huge amount to your image...Equipment
For this image I used a Canon 700D standard tripod with Cokin polariser 0.6 grad and 0.6 nd filter to slow the shutter down to 2 seconds the polariser to get some detail from the water and the nd grad to add drama to the sky and even out the exposure in camera.....Inspiration
Devlin is an area I had seen some spectacular images taken and just had to wait for the right conditions to come together to make my own "spectacular" image.....Editing
I done a small bit of post processing in Photoshop to deepen the drama in the sky and to lift the shadows to give as much detail as possible in those fantastic rocks and believe it or not to reduce the saturation as the colour taken in by the camera was just too strong and I felt that it would make a more appealing photo by toning it down a bit.....In my camera bag
I have updated my equipment since this image was taken and I now carry a Canon 5D mark iii plus a Canon 70D as a spare body,on landscapes I use a TAMRON SP 15-30mm F/2.8 Di VC USD with a Lee Filters sw150 filter set and a manfrotto 055XPRO04 Tripod with a Manfrotto 055 ballhead..Feedback
Know your location before you go do as much research as you can re tides, sun location, accessability, weather and know what shots you want to capture as this saves a huge amount of time in changing light, there are numerous apps such as TPE that are vital to a landscape photgrapher and are available on both Android and IOS and always arrive at least an hour before sunset to set yourself up do test shots and to have your composition ready so that when the light starts to become soft and golden you are ready to capture the magic!!!!
