Location
The photo is shot in the ski area above the town of Siglufjordur the northernmost town in Iceland.Time
This is shot mid winter around midnight.Lighting
This is shot on a stormy night, the stars were wisible and a hint of aurora borealis behind the clouds, giving a light bluegreen haze in the background. Exposure time was about six seconds giving some intresting movement in the clouds.Equipment
This is shot on Sony a7r using the 14mm Samyang lens. I use a Manfrotto tripod and use the 2sec delay in camera instead of using remote shutter control.Inspiration
I usualli shoot exclusively in my hometown of Siglufjordur. I am constantly on the lookout for interesting light or contrasts in the nature around. I always have my camera close by, because when the moment comes, I might just be a few minutes to catch it.Editing
I brightened the photo up in Lightroom adjusting shadows, higlights and sharpening it a tad with clarity and sharpen. In my camera bag
I have a large Manfrotto and a mini tripod. In my bag I keep my 55mm Zeiss 1.8f, 70-200mm G lens 2.8f, 24-70mm Zeiss 4.0f and my 14mm 2.8f Samyang. I Have five fully loaded batteries a remote control a small flash ligt, lens cleaning cloths and a small Zony Flash.Feedback
My advice is challanging nature and go out in all kind of weather. Many of my best shots are taken when I did not expect much because of the weather. Fog, snow, rain, high winds or hours in the freesing cold darkness can give surpricingly good results. The picture might also be different than the average landscape photography because nobody is out shooting in shitty weather. ;) Photography is my workout. It justifies going out into the nature and getting the exercise I need. Good pictures are a bonus and an opportunity to share the beauty I witness with the couch potatoes. There are actually people here that have never seen the Aurora borealis because they never go out at night.
