Location
This shot was taken in Seattle, Washington at a non profit estate garden - Lakewold Gardens. The estate gardens are located near the Lakes District of Washington. The gardens are beautiful with roses and knot gardens, alpine and rock gardens, waterfall, fern and woodland gardens. It has many hidden pathways with magical scenery to explore. You can let your imagination go wild there, the pathways can lead to a magical fairyland if you let it!Time
As we were there for a quick visit to the area, we only had a few hours to explore and enjoy the gardens. I took the photo in the middle of the day, usually it's not the best time of day to take photos, but the light was on my side, under the canopy of the trees I had low light but looking up the stairs provided the bright daylight which allows for the wonderful glow through the trees.Lighting
The light was perfect under the canopy of the trees and the bright sun light at the top of the stairs provided the magical glow that could lead you to another world or even another dimension, if you let your mind wonder....Equipment
My main camera is a Canon 7D with my canon lens - 24mm to 70mm ultrasonic, it's perfect for travel and can be used for all sort of photography if you have limited luggage space.Inspiration
I do a lot of travel photography and I'm always conscious of taking photos from different angels and perspectives as I don't want my photos to look like everyone elses. I am fan of creating images that are magical, that allow your imagination to wonder and to believe if you look hard into the photo you may actually see a fairy or a unicorn. Creating mystery in a photo is hard, and sometimes the light and the trees come together and create the special moment like in this photo, I was lucky that day.Editing
I like to do some post-processing on all my photos, sometimes you need to correct the exposure or tweek the colour. In my camera bag
My trusty Canon 7D has been my work horse and loyal friend which comes with me nearly everywhere, it takes wonderful photos and never lets me down. I usually use my Canon 100mm Macro lens for most of my flower photography and Canon 24mm-70mm which is an awesome lens, it can take awesome landscapes and will do fantastic snap shots of family. I always carry a few filters like a polariser and star filter for some fun shots at night.Feedback
To create a similar shot all you need is a park or forest with some awesome trees, any season will do and get down on your knees to create a different perspective and shoot into the clearing or the light. As you shoot into the light it changes the colour tones in your photos and can create amazing glows or even atmospheric rays of light coming through the trees. All you can do is shoot and experiment and see what happens.
