I took this photo on the way up to Aiguille du Midi from Chamonix centre.Time
It was around 11am so the light wasn't anything special, apart from those dappled cloud shadows that I mentioned above; and actually the harsh mid day shadowing helped me bring out the extraordinary detailing in the rock faces.Lighting
I noticed the incredible detail in the rocks mixed with the interesting dappled lighting from the clouds. It almost felt like an underwater scene in places. I had to capture this unique moment.Equipment
Camera body: Canon EOS 5D Mark II Lens: EF17-40mm f/4L USM Exif data: Focal Length: 40mm Aperture: ƒ14 Exposure: 1/250s ISO: 640Inspiration
I love the mountains. So any chance I get, you will find me somewhere exploring their beauty. I love the crisp un polluted air. The fact that you're at altitude also means that the skies are much richer with saturated blues. Almost as if using a polarising lens. I love the structure and contrast that you get for free. So much drama! :)Editing
Yes I always get stuck in to post processing. Its in my nature as I am a visual effects artist during the week. I tend to search out the most striking parts of an image that I have taken. And then accentuate its features or tones, to really focus the viewers attention to it.In my camera bag
My camera, wide angle lens and a 70-200mm zoom. I always carry a spare battery and memory card. Oh and a lens cloth is so important!Feedback
Go out and practice. It can be tricky getting the right exposure during mid day alpine exposure because you're dealing with super brights and very dark shadows! Id say try to under expose a tad rather than over as you cant recover blown out portions but you can always raise the shadows enough to make an image what it needs to be.
