I captured this photo while shooting the Massive Addictive Concert in Las Vegas. Archie of Santa Cruz and the Band opened for the band Amaranthe at Hard Rock Hotel's Vinyl.Time
It was toward the end of their set that night, Was a great opening to an amazing concert.Lighting
Lighting is Hard in Venues and Concerts like this, Its so quick, dark, and changing. at the end of the day you need a Artist, a Light Technician, and Yourself working all together, without working together. Sometimes you need to shoot the same thing 3 or 4 times, and hope you caught it with the Spot Lights on, because you don't get to use a flash. That is the fun in it though, Timing, Listening, and Following the Stage Lights are the Trick.Equipment
Shot on a Canon T3I with a 18-55mm Kit Lens Believe it or not.Inspiration
This was one of the first major concerts I had ever got to shoot, and after led me to the path of Music and Concert Photography being the niche that I really wanted to follow. Archie's outfit was so textbook of that Glam Hard Rock style, and I knew that I had to capture that. I also wanted to capture that moment when the Bands, that their fans love so much, give them exactly what they want a moment that people "Remember" in those concerts, but few are captured, and I wanted to capture it.Editing
Once I pulled the RAW's from that evening into Lightroom this was one of those shots that just stuck out perfectly! I pulled the color to make it Black and White, to give it the exact feel I felt necessary and chalked that up as a Perfect Clean shot, It is not even cropped. In my camera bag
When I am shooting Live Concerts, as any concert junkie knows, you have minimal lighting. So my Concert Set up is quite minimal. I carry a Double Chest Camera Sling, with a 7D and my Old Trusty T3I. I keep a 50mm 1.8, and a 24mm 2.8 equipped, I usually keep a 18-55mm Kit on my belt just in case along with a Wide Angle adapter.Feedback
I have spent a fair share of money on Gear over the years, But I never want that to steer anyone clear of such a fine art. I have heard so many Insist you need Prime Lenese (That I do indeed own) and other gear that could be considered expensive for people just getting into photography. You eye and attention to detail is important though. I snapped this on a T3I with a Kit Lens, Do not ever think its about the gear only. Keep your eyes open, Keep your Ears Open, and Never Put the camera down. I have shot concerts I honestly have not enjoyed, but if it is something you want to get into shoot Bands and Music you enjoy, and I assure you Enjoying the Concert makes it so much easier to capture the moment, because YOU know what need to captured. Do not be afraid to shoot a few clicks of the same shot, Sometimes a split second at any concert will change the lighting and that may be the must frustrating part but it is by far the Most Amazing type of Photography in my book!
