Location
I shot this on the beach at lake Ontario here in my hometown in Whitby, Ontario, Canada.Time
It was around 10pm, for obvious reasons it had to be dark outside for me to get the photo I wanted.Lighting
For lighting, all I really used was the little amount of available light, and to light myself I used the flashlight that is on my iPhone, mixed with a long 30 second exposure.Equipment
Camera: Canon 50D Lens: Canon 17-85mm Tripod: Manfrotto tripod that I have used a handful of times. Lighting: iPhone 5 flashlightInspiration
This photo was taken for an assignment I had at school which was to take a creative long exposure.Editing
No editing was done to this it was straight out of the camera. In my camera bag
As a freelane photojournalist my kit tends to change up quite often but the majority of the time here is what it involves. Camera: Canon 1D MK III as my main camera, and a Canon 50D which I use as a backup or remote camera. Lenses: Canon 135mm f/2 (Favourite lens I own, the sharpness is unbelievable) Canon 50mm f/1.8, Canon 24-70mm f/2.8, and Canon 70-200mm f/2.8. When I need to I will rent out either a 300 or 400mm.Feedback
My advice for anyone trying to do similar would be be to definitely plan out this type of shot beforehand I ended up thinking of my final idea while I was driving to the location. And when shooting long exposures, make sure you have a sturdy tripod don't use one of those cheap 20$ ones you can buy at a big box electronics store, I've used them before and lets just say there might be a tripod sitting in the bottom of a lake.
