I took this shot in my home studio in Newcastle, it was one of the first new baby shoots I'd done!Time
It was taken quite early in the morning, working with young babies is quite tricky as they wake up so early but need a nap by 9am!Lighting
I used a light diffuser so it wasn't too bright for Penny but still made her features nice and clear!Equipment
I used basic equipment including my trusty canon 450d and my 18-5mm lens at around f/3.5 to make the fairy lights in the background blur.Inspiration
I wanted to show the connection between new parents and their new addition. Even at 6 weeks Penny was looking very content with her kisses.Editing
I edited the image lightly, making it black and white but didn't want to change the natural look of the shot by over editing. In my camera bag
My canon 450d and 10d bodies, a zoo lens, 18-55mm lens and a nifty fifty lens. I use an external flash occasionally.Feedback
Be patient, babies are such an amazing subject to photograph but their unpredictability means you have to be ready to capture split second moments like this!
