This is a photo of Glade Creek Mill in Babcock State Park, WV.Time
This is one of my favorite images, and I truly lucked out with the timing. It had been raining most of the time we were there, but the sun decided to break through the clouds to light up the trees. Timing is everything.Lighting
This was one of those very lucky moments where the light comes in on the subject and you wait for that perfect moment to snap the shutter.Equipment
Nikon D800, 24-120mm f/4G with a B+W Kaesemann CPL on a tripodInspiration
I had seen many images of this place, and I had to get there at some point to photograph it. I was amazed by how vivid the colors were while we were there; my only wish is that the weather would have been more cooperative while we were there.Editing
This image, like all of my photography, is an HDR, which by many is frowned upon because of the over-processed and garish manner in which many people use HDR, but I want my photography to look real. Like George Lepp says, "You can use HDR as a tool or an effect," and I couldn't agree more. I was very fortunate to work with George Lepp, and I learned a lot from him. I also believe HDR is a fantastic tool. This is a nine shot bracket at .3 stops processed by Photomatix, Lightroom and Photoshop with Topaz plugins. In my camera bag
D800, Nikon 24-120mm f/4, Sigma 12-24mm, Sigma 150-500mm, B+W Kaesemann filters, a lightning trigger and other fun goodies.Feedback
The first piece of advice I would give would be to simply have fun. If you do go to Babcock for the fall colors, expect many people to be there. At times that becomes frustrating as people will climb all over the rock in the middle of the creek. We were even very lucky to be treated to a ballet performance by a teenage girl pirouetting on the rock, so be prepared for people to be in your shot almost constantly.
