I took this photo in my back yard. I am trying to teach myself photography and this was a photo shoot with my Jack Russell. I was working on freezing action.Time
I took this set of images around 7pm. I had just gotten off of my day job and Scooter wanted to play fetch. It gave me an excuse to take pictures of him and practice my photography at the same time.Lighting
I took this image with the sun to my back close to dusk. The sun was low enough, and the dog short enough, to keep him in the shadows of the fenceEquipment
This was shot with a Cannon 70D and an 85mm 1.8F lensInspiration
I have been wanting to work on my action freezing. Scooter, my dog, is always willing to oblige. I love his facial expressions and movements as he runs. He is a very willing subject.Editing
Other than converting the original to black and white. I adjusted the clarity and vibrance. I also sharpened the photo a little bit.In my camera bag
I have a photography "bug out bag" that consists of my Canon 70D with the 18mm-200mm all purpose lens attached. Within the bag I carry at least one prime lens, usually my 85mm 1.8, and my 70-200mm EF-L lens. I always have a tripod and at least one remote shutter (either cable or wireless). Of course I always have at least 3 battery packs and at least 2 spare 16GB memory cards on me.Feedback
Find a willing furry subject is the most important advise. I would also recommend getting as low as possible. I was laying on my stomach on the ground for this photoshoot. I set my camera to manual mode and adjusted the aperture to F1.8 and played with the shutter speed until I achieved this shot. Be prepared to take several photographs, especially if the subject is as active as ol Scooter here.
