Location
I took this photo near Philadelphia, PA off my 10 story balcony.Time
It was a beautiful, quiet, clear, night past 10pm. Nobody was out and it was just me and my camera, a very peaceful night, indeed.Lighting
The lighting used was nothing but the moon and stars.Equipment
My Nikon CoolPix P600 is not my best camera, but it has an incredible zoom with exceptional picture quality for not being a DSLR. The tripod is a must for these type of shots.Inspiration
My inspiration came from seeing other's star trail photography and trying to do it myself. I'm in love with the moon and all it brings to reflect it's light from the sun onto our darkness. Seeing what others were able to do with their cameras has inspired me to try new things. I am just an intermediate beginner, but I expect that with my research and new photography friends I will be able to get better and better.Editing
Yes, I fused 2 photos together and adjusted the lighting on the star trails. I wanted the moon to block the North Star, so the stars would circle around it. In history, the slaves followed it to get to freedom. The moon in this photo, is the North Star, but be careful following it because it may take you around the world. In my camera bag
I don't have much. Just my cameras, tripod, lenses, and a few extra batteries in case time gets a way from me.Feedback
You will want to shoot this shot on a clear night with no clouds to interrupt your view. Open your shutter for a couple minutes to practice and make sure that you have your camera on a tripod. Try and keep the tripod steady on a flat surface and try not to bump into it. Set your focus on the moon and leave room for the moon to move- know what direction it is moving in or it will get away from your sight on the camera. It did for me a few times and it took a few tries to get this.
