Location
The photo was taken in Mill Valley, CA. This is the underside of the Richardson Bay Bridge.Time
The photo was taken around 7:30 am. I frequently jog the bike path that runs by the Richardson Bay Bridge and had noticed on previous mornings, the gorgeous patterns caused by the early morning light reflecting on the water. On this day, I made a point to park my car nearby, go for my run, and then back to my car to get my camera and take this shot.Lighting
The natural lighting is what this shot was all about for me. The light at this time of the morning is beautiful and I wanted to capture the "art" it created.Equipment
This was shot using a Panasonic Lumix which has a fixed 25-600 mm lens. No other equipment was used.Inspiration
I love abstract photography and paintings. Rather than taking a shot of the entire bridge on a beautiful morning, which to me, would not have been as interesting, I wanted to focus on the abstract nature of the light reflections and patterns created on the concrete.Editing
I did minimal post-processing...adjusted the white balance and exposure just slightly. In my camera bag
I love simplicity and the idea that great photographs can be taken without a lot of equipment. As an amateur, it was important to me to invest in a good camera that wouldn't cost a fortune. I typically only carry my Panasonic Lumix, a spare battery and memory card and the cable to transfer the images to my laptop. If needed, I have a tripod, polarizing filter and wireless remote shutter release.Feedback
My number one advice is to try to capture an image early in the morning or late in the day when the light is most beautiful. When you are out and about, look at how the light reflecting off of another surface (e.g. water, metal, etc.) creates shapes and patterns on something else...in this case, the concrete of the bridge. Frame the shot to capture the area of the image that excites you the most and take the shot!
