Location
I took this picture from my front yard in a rural area of SW Nebraska. The neighbors horses had gotten out of their pasture and were in the field next to my house.Time
It was late afternoon, almost sunset.Lighting
The sun was directly on the back side of the horse on the right.Equipment
I shot without a tripod, using a my Nikon 3000 with an older lens, AF-S DX ZOOM-NIKOR 55-200 MM f/4-5.6 ED. No flash was used.Inspiration
I was actually out taking pictures of some birds when I saw the horses running so I went to the fence, hoping to get a picture of them running. I was in awe when they started rearing up at each and I just started snapping shots. This picture was obvious the best and most exciting. I do not think the were fighting, but playing. They were losing their winter fir and had not been ridden in awhile so to me they looked wild. Just the shot I desired. Only thing that would have been better is if they were truly horses in the wild.Editing
I had to lighten the shadows a small amount and enhanced the definition and sharpness to bring out the roughness of their coats. In my camera bag
I almost always carry at least one of my Nikons and two lens's, one for those immediate shots that randomly occur, which is a Tameron 18-270 and my Nikon 70-300MM Zoom lens for those shots that need that are a little farther away. I often put the Zoom lens on my Nikon 3000 and carry both cameras. I normally have my tripod in the back of my car. I also carry a lens cloth to keep my camera lens clear of dust, which needs done a lot when you live in the country on the dusty roads.Feedback
Carry your camera everywhere. I even take it with me when I am doing chores in the evening. Also, The one thing I have learned is it is not always the best equipment. For this picture I had an older lens and a beginner digital SLR camera. It really is being in the right place at the right time. As well as the don't give up and keep learning at every opportunity.
