Love how the flower is triumphant in its survival using the dead stumps essence.

Location
This image was taken up Catching Inlet, a tributary to the bay in Coos Bay, OR.Time
Early morning in the fog.Lighting
Because of the overhanging layer of fog, the lighting was very diffused and flat.Equipment
Shot as a color slide (yes, the old analog stuff) with a Pentax Spotmatic. This was hand held and the slide was later digitized on an Epson V500 flat-bed scanner.Inspiration
The lighting and the contrast between the brilliant yellow of the flowers and the neutral gray of the decaying piling.Editing
Yes. First was to digitize the image, and then a crop and some slight adjustments to exposure, hue and saturation to obtain the look I found most pleasing. Also needed to retouch small dust blemishes from the scanned image. In my camera bag
I now carry a Nikon D90 as my primary camera. I was a late holdout for making the transition to the digital world, as I had been active with photography since grade school.Feedback
Always keep your eyes peeled for what is around you. Sometimes the simplest or most mundane can yield a spectacular shot.
