Location
It was in Breckenridge, CO. Ice Castle.Time
It was getting dark so I guess it must have been 5-6pm. We were skiing all day long but wanted to see this famous castle before we return to Denver for the night.Lighting
The castle had a few beautifully lit spots and sunset was just making the sky look magically. This photo was taken just after the sunset hence the colors.Equipment
This was shot with Nikon D800, Nikon lens 17-35mm f/2.8.Inspiration
This particular ice formation looked like knights guarding an entrance to a secret valley. Very poetic.Editing
I did cross processing, adjusted contrast and cropped it only.In my camera bag
I was skiing all day long so I only had my camera with 17-35mm f/2.8 lens plus 50mm lens for some portraits of my kids. It was already heavy enough ;-) Normally I carry additionally my 85mm and spare battery.Feedback
Be fast by the sunset. Get there earlier, prepare and then use the sunset light (and after the sunset too) to the maximum. This light changes very quickly and each shade brings up different feeling/effect.
