Location
The Sonian Forest at the southeast edge of Brussels, Belgium.Time
The picture was taken at a later hour. As you can see in the right side of the frame there is a warm glowing light behind the trees and bushes, it's the sun setting in the background or commonly known as the golden hour. The talent and myself being late risers has nothing to do with it…Lighting
To make the subject stand out more in its surroundings I always try to use one or two flashes. I have an interest in people and focus on them in my work. I want the viewer to look at the subject, the person. Making the subject stand out more by flashing light on him helps me with this vision. In this particular work there are two flashes, both along the left side of the frame. The first one is on the ground pointing up at the subject. It was placed here to bring out some detail of the bark and create contrast on it. The positioning also casted the shadow you see on his body. It represents the tree connecting with the subject. The tree uniting with the person. The second flash is above the subject. Placed in a tree with a clamp. The flash had a milk carton on it to direct the light towards his face, creating the strong light and shadow on his face. What brought the picture together for me was the timing of the day. The warm light fitted perfectly with the meaning of the picture. A reconnection with nature had to be a warm moment.Equipment

I let myself be inspired by nature. I knew which technique I was going to use but not the concept. The subject and myself searched for meaning in the compositions nature presented to us. The first picture we took for the series was a composition that made it look like the tree branches were sucking the life out of the subject. This inspired me to create a series about a connection with nature. The picture you see is the last picture, the final moment. The human reconnected with nature.Editing
To emphasize the energy that could be present in a moment like this I boosted the saturation a little bit. Composition is important to me, I try to be as conscious as possible of all the elements in frame. Sometimes you can't have full control and there is an element you can't remove in the moment. In this situation I would remove the element in photoshop. In this case it was a big tree branch going along the entire top side of the frame. It was not working in the composition so I had to remove it.In my camera bag

A composition like this is hard to create with previsualisation. You need to be out there in the world looking and getting inspired by anything that can be offered to you.
