Location
This photo was taken for an assignment for my associate's degree. It was the school's studio, and lights. The flower and vase are mine.Time
School time.Lighting
I had a black plexiglass tabletop and a black background. A backlight with a blue filter was on the floor lighting the background. Two soft boxes were flanking the camera on each side.Equipment
My large format camera which I regret selling a few years ago was my camera. I scanned the 4X5 sheet film on a flat bed film scanner. I don't recall the types of lights or flash units. It was definitely on a studio tripod. The lens was a 55mm lens on the large format, which brand I think was Omega if I recall.Inspiration
The assignment was contrasting colors. And I love blue. When I was searching for something yellow, this Gerbera Daisy jumped out at me.Editing
Other than scanning, we used gray cards to color balance, and of course cropping that large 4X5 frame to an 8X10 compatible print. In my camera bag
Today I use a Canon digital camera with multiple lenses. I need to find a large zoom lens for capturing the beautiful birds coming back for Spring in Wisconsin.Feedback
Mistakes don't happen in photography. Happy accidents, sure. Surprises, definitely. I shocked my instructor when he came around the corner. Shock and awe in photography is always a good thing.
