Behind The Lens

Location

This shot is from Largo Nature Preserve located on the west coast of Florida. It´s a public park with fresh water surroundings. I am standing on a boardwalk at safe distance from the herons nest. Lots and lots of waiting before this chick popped up! Parents taking turnes feeding, but would rather be sleeping. They are night herons after all.

Time

Midday.

Lighting

Since the area has dense vegetation the natural light came in fine although midday.

Equipment

My CanonEOS 5 D Mark III at 1/640-f/3.2 at 200 mm. Lens: Canon EF 70-200 1:2.8 L IS II USM Handheld.

Inspiration

The rich wildlife in Florida is Amazing and I started adding to my Florida portfolio 2005. My passion for wildlife and photography is the perfect outlet for my creativity. I followed these herons for some time, hoping to see the chicks some day. Finally they showed! I was alert and ready.

Respect for the wildlife. Study behavior carefully at a non disturbing distance. Very slow movements around subject.
