Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was photographed at a dining area of our hairstylist's house. It was a limited space but we made it work for this portrait.

Time

We started preparing the shoot around 9 or 10 in the morning and actually started shooting around noon.

Lighting

IN order to make the image intriguing and mysterious, I decided to use one light- a beauty dish mounted on a flash positioned in front of the subject angled a little bit above her head.

Equipment

This was sot on a Nikon D810 Camera using a 50mm lens. I am using a Paul C Buff Whtelighning 1800 light as a flash with a beauty dish as a modifier.

Inspiration

This photo is part of a series of images highlighting hair. Me and my team decided to create some images that invokes fantasy, nostalgia, and art. Our vision is to make our subjects look like statues by painting them white. The elaborate and beautiful white hair was created and styled by my talented hairstylist Cherry Petenbrink.

Editing

Yes. There is a little bit post processing involved on the Brightness and Contrast of the image but that's pretty much it.

In my camera bag

I love to pack light. SO my go to equipment inside my camera bag is a NIKON D810 body , a 50 mm f/1.4 lens, 18-140 mm f/3.5 lens, a bunch of spare batteries, memory cards, tapes, charger, pens, post it note, and a pack of advil.

Feedback

In creating any image, careful planning ad brainstorming with your team is key. It is essential to find a great team who can put your vision into reality. Start with an idea but don't get married into it. Let it evolve and if you are collaborating with people, let them evolve with you. Together, as a team, you can create a stunning image. THat's why I always highlight the importance of having the best people around you.
