Behind The Lens

Location

On 4th street in Berkeley, California

Time

Late night, around 10:30pm

Lighting

I had two lights, one behind my model to be able to get the rain in my shoot, and the second next to my camera pointing towards my model to make sure she was well exposed

Equipment

I used my sony a7riii, and sony 85mm 1.8, with two flashes godox ad 200 with small diffusers from Magnetmod, MagGrid and magspher

Inspiration

I was inspired by all the Christmas lights on 4th street. The rain was unplanned, but I love how it reflected the lights to create a cheery feel on a winter night

Editing

I used lightroom to do all my editing, but I didn't change much

In my camera bag

I usually have my sony a7riii, two godox speedlights and my godox ad200. For lenses I carry the Sony 24-70 2.8, sony 85mm 1.8, Rokinon 14mm 2.8

Feedback

It can be annoying to shoot in the rain because your camera and flashes need to be protected. I used a plastic camera cover and a couple of ziplock bags and it worked great. Also make sure the flash behind your model is at least 6-10 feet back in order to capture the rain (high power worked best for me). Also, a low angle is great for this type of picture because it allows you to get a nice reflection on the wet pavement.
