Location
The photo was taken in the south of Chile, in a place called Chaihuin, near Corral's bay. Nature and IR filters are the best to see some unreal colors and landscapes.Time
I believe it was at breakfast time, around 10am. The morning was foggy, so I wanted to see the outcome using an IR filter.Lighting
LikenI said before, the morning was foggy and was probably 10 am, so the sun was not above us.Equipment
A the time I was using my Olympus e510, Zuiko digital 14-45 3.5-5.6 and a Hoya R72 (infrared) filter.Inspiration
I am a pretty awkward person and I was feeling a little sad that morning, everyone was having such a good time and I was feeling sad and distant from the rest, so I grabbed my camera and walked right into the fog. When I saw that boat I felt connected, I was the boat and it was me, alone, rocking with the river's ripples and tightly holded to the land, not letting it be. At the time I thought -wow, what a perfect self portrait.Editing
Yes, I did use post processing. This is a photo taken with a IR filter, so the outcome is a red looking picture, same as if you use a regular red filter. I needed to clean and swap colour channels. In my camera bag
Nowadays my favorite equipment is my loved Nikon D700 and a 35mm f2 Nikon lensFeedback
Using IR filters is a unique experience, first of all you don't really see through the viewfinder and exposure times are quite longs so take your time to think how you can get the best results with what you have. Everything can affect the final loom of your photo. The quality of iso, the softness of the shades, how hard the sun hits the elements and of course the different post processing techniques. Just enjoy and take your time to learn and try different settings and setups.
