In this region there used to be a practice of 'communal horses' - they roamed free and belonged to the village, without specific owners. When needed, they were rounded up and put to use by members of the village, and then left to their own devices again. With technology, reliance on horses decreased , but their numbers increased, and they became truly wild horses. They are now back in demand - by photographers and tourists.
