Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in my living room. I do have studio space in my home but that's not usually where the spur of the moment photographic opportunities like this one happen.

Time

This photo was taken on a quiet relaxing afternoon, when the sun is lower in the sky but it's not quite setting.

Lighting

This photograph is lit solely by natural light. There was beautiful late fall/early winter sunlight coming in through the large window.

Equipment

This photograph was taken with my Samsung Note 4. When I'm working in my studio or out shooting events I have my full body camera, choice of lenses and desired lighting set up (speedlights, umbrellas, reflectors). However, I'm a firm believer that you can also create beautiful images with very basic photography equipment if you have a solid foundation and add a flare of creativity.

Inspiration

The beauty and unconditional love of house pets. It means a lot to have them part of our lives so I see it as a subtle honor to immortalize these moments through a "simple" photo - which in itself is the art of finding beauty everywhere.

Editing

Since I take all my photos in color, I post-process in Photoshop, converting to black and white using a combination of channels, hue/saturation and levels adjustments layers, as well as blend modes and layer masks.

In my camera bag

In my bag you will always find my Huawei P20 Pro. I'm blown away by the range of manual settings and lenses found on it. I call it a camera that makes phone calls.

Feedback

Always be in the moment. Enjoy what's happening around you and if you feel it capture it. Don't force anything. It's the best way to capture the emotion you want to portray.
