Behind The Lens

Location

The photo was taken at Dalby Forest in the UK.

Time

It was around 3pm.

Lighting

I remember it was quite dark inside the forest, so I took three exposures which I would later blend together.

Equipment

Sony A7Rii and Sony FE 16-35 F4

Inspiration

My family and I had spent the day roaming the forest, and really I was documenting our visit there more than anything. But we walked into this area of the forest and the scene was perfect.

Editing

I blended the three exposures together using Photomatix HDR software. For the editing I was aiming for a more ethereal look, and it was a case of playing around with the HSL in Lightroom. I ended up with a good 10 versions, but I chose this as the final edit.

In my camera bag

I mostly work as a wedding and events photographer. My bag is forever changing, but here's what I have now: Sony A7Riii Sony A9 Sony A7iii Sony FE 24-70 f2.8 GM Sony FE 35mm f1.8 Sony FE 85mm f1.8 Sony FE 70-200 f2.8 GM Sony FE 28mm f2 Recently purchased the Tamron 17-28 f2.8 which is a superb lens.

Feedback

I think it's important to explore different perspectives to capture a scene, such as from high and from low. For this photo I got as close to the ground as I could.
