Location
This image was taken on the Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia. The beach is called Tugun.Time
I took this image a little after sunrise on a very overcast morning.Lighting
I knew it was going to be overcast and I was shooting specifically for black and white images. I only had two compositions and this was the best.Equipment
This image was shot using a Nikon D810, Nikon 14-24mm - F2.8 lens. The filters I used were a Lee 4 stop ND and a Lee hard edge 3 stop ND graduatedInspiration
I have shot this little group of rocks a few times and I knew this gap in the rocks would give me sum nice water movement. I have shot it as a color image in the past but as the rocks a very dark and textured I felt black and white would work better.Editing
Basic adjustments in Lightroom and cropped 2:1.In my camera bag
I mainly shoot landscapes and I use a Nikon D800 and D810 but I use a number of lenses, including a Nikon 14-24mm, Nikon 24-70mm, Nikon 70-200mm. I use the Lee filter system with 4,6 and 10 stop ND's, very hard, hard and soft edge graduated ND's and circular polarizing. I carry 10 additional camera batteries, a wireless shutter release and a small plastic bucket hanging from a cod I my tripod that I cover the camera with when water is spraying around.Feedback
I try and capture an interesting image using my experience of light manipulation and composition. I have shot very traditional images at very well know locations and detonations and I have always been able to get the result I wanted along with 100,000 other photographers. I'm done with all of that, for me it's about trying to capture something new and interesting, even if it's just some simple rocks in the water at sunrise.
