Location
This photo was taken in the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist in Savannah, Georgia.Time
It was around lunchtime and the Church had a lot of visitors.Lighting
I wanted to capture the size and beauty of the main worship room. The photo is really seven bracketed photos merged in Skylum HDR and final adjustments in Photoshop and Lightroom.Equipment
I used a Nikon D-800 on a tripod with a wireless release. The lens was a Nikon 35-70 mm set at F-11 with a Lee 100 mm ND 8 filter and camera set to bulb. Photos where shot in RAW.Inspiration
I never thought about photographing the inside of a church, however while shooting the exterior I was approached by a Bishop who loved my exterior photos and told me I should go in and photograph the main hall. To say the least the architecture is breathtaking and the sheer grandeur of the space is amazing.Editing
Import to Lightroom, adjusted any Chipping. Exported to Skylum HDR and combined photos. Exported to Photoshop and adjusted colors, shadow's and highlights. Lastly, I denoised the photo. In my camera bag
Nikon D-800, 35-70 mm lens, Lee ND filters, tripod, wireless release, and four batteries.Feedback
If your going to photograph places with people in the scene than use a tripod, ND filter, wireless release and set camera to bulb to take long exposures so they'll disappear since their moving.
