Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in Santa Cruz, Torres Vedras, Portugal in one of the most beautiful beaches of Portugal.

Time

This was taken August 18, 2005 at 8:11 PM.

Lighting

The best light is always at dawn or at dusk, in this case I choose to take it at dusk because of the position of the sun regarding the rock, it is so much better illuminated at dusk.

Equipment

This was shot with a Sony Cybershot DSC P100.

Inspiration

My inspiration was really this big rock, it's a unique rock like no other in the Earth and makes this beach also unique so I had to capture it.

Editing

Yes I did, I corrected the white balance, contrast and levels and did an HDR.

In my camera bag

I first started with a Sony Cybershot DSC-P100, then I evolved to a SLR, the Canon EOS 400D and then I got a Canon EOS 30D which is my current camera. Regarding lenses I have a Canon EF-S 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5 USM, a Canon EF-S 17-85mm f/4-5.6 IS USM and a Canon EF 70-200mm f/4L IS USM. I also have a MTL 9251B Giottos Tripod.

Feedback

Search for unique characteristics in your landscape to make your photo unique and then spend some time searching for the best time of the day to capture it, at dawn or at dusk, visit the place at both times, and only in these times because the light is so much better. Also the position of the sun may change over the year so if you have time see at what time of the year the position of the sun is better.
