Very beautiful. Was it difficult to light?

I probably should've added that info, huh?

There is one LED panel on a tall stand to the left, just out of frame. It is barely on, you'd hardly even be able to tell, it was so dim. A 25 second exposure brought the light level to almost even with the stars. This gives the even exposure that you see here. All in one photo. I was behind the shorter rock in front and blasted my headlamp on once. That gave the shot some depth, I believe. I am really enjoying this static form of light painting. I used to only use my headlamp but it was so difficult to get an even light painting and nearly impossible to do it the same each time.

This is absolutely gorgeous!! I'll be heading for JT, one of my favorite places in Aug for a milky way evening of shots! We'll be light painting too, thanks for the tip on the LED light and stand. And Congrats on all your wins for this image.

Behind The Lens

Location

Taken in Joshua Tree National Park.

Time

Shortly after just getting dark in October, around 10pm.

Lighting

There is an LED light panel, on a tripod, just out of frame of camera left that is on at its lowest setting. This allows the ambient light to match the stars during the 30 second exposure. I am directly in from of the big rock in the center. With a wireless remote, to fire the shot, I blasted my headlamp on once as the photo was being exposed. This gave the blast of light look in the center of the frame.

Equipment

Canon 5D MKIV, 16-35mm f/2.8, LED light panel, headlamp, wireless remote, RRS tripod

Inspiration

I went out, for this photo, on the last new moon of the milky way season. Landscape astro is something that I am casually into but desire to do more of. I was feeling creative, as I had already gotten the photo went for, and was trying different things with multiple light sources.

Editing

There's basic lightroom adjustment as well as PS work with curves, for both contrast and color, and sharpening.

In my camera bag

Canon 5D MKIV, 16-35mm f/2.8, and lately a Canon 85mm.

Feedback

I always feel like I am in a hurry to get the shot and easily overlook the little things, especially in the dark. Take your time. Focus on the present and be mindful of your surroundings. Don't be afraid to try new things and always try to learn from your mistakes.
