Location
This was taken on a beach in the south of Thailand, near Krabi.Time
I think it was late morning, maybe around 11am.Lighting
As you can probably imagine, a beach in Thailand gets a lot of bright sunlight so there were no issues with lighting in this shot.Equipment
I took this on my first real digital camera, a mirrorless Samsung NX1100 that I got second hand off eBay for less than £100. This was before I left for my first trip to Asia and I wanted something better than a smartphone camera, overall I was very impressed this this Samsung.Inspiration
This photo makes it clear that pollution is a massive problem everywhere in the world and it goes hand-in-hand with mass tourism. What you can’t see in this photo are the dozens of tourists behind the camera sitting on the beach and leaving rubbish behind for the wildlife to pick up.Editing
Yes, I used lightroom to slightly lighten the shadows in the foreground. In my camera bag
I usually travel light and don’t have very much camera equipment, when this was taken all I had was a Samsung NX1100 and kit lens. Nowadays I use a Nikon D7000 but still only have one lens.Feedback
This photo was all about getting the timing right. I think I spent over 2 hours on that beach trying to get a good photo before this opportunity came up, but even that isn’t a long time for wildlife photography.
